No More Scans, Just Retirement Plans for Cheryl!
News
After 36 incredible years, it’s time to celebrate the retirement of Cheryl Bradford! As Lead Mammography Tech, Cheryl has been a cornerstone of our team since 1989, making a lasting mark on our patients, her colleagues, and the Mammography Department.
Cheryl’s journey into healthcare began with a passion for helping others. Initially considering a career in nursing, she discovered her true calling in radiology after a conversation with a friend. A graduate of Monache High School in 1979, Cheryl went on to attend St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas, where she began her radiology career at Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital. Life eventually brought her back to Porterville, where family roots and an opportunity at Sierra View led her to join our team.
Throughout her time at Sierra View, Cheryl has taken on numerous responsibilities that have shaped the success of the Mammography Department. She has maintained State and ACR certifications, ensuring the department meets rigorous standards. Cheryl has successfully guided the team through numerous State and ACR inspections without a single failure. Her expertise in imaging, fluoroscopy, and mammography, supported by certifications from California and the ARRT, has made her a trusted mentor to the next generation of techs. Cheryl has trained staff in mammography, bone density, and stereotactic core biopsies and is especially proud of her successors, Hardeep Gill and Brenda Duran, who she believes will lead the department to continued success.
When asked what stands out most about her career, Cheryl shared that it’s impossible to choose just one thing, but she emphasized the importance of compassion. “Some patients are told they have to come back for additional imaging or a biopsy. Compassion starts when the patient shows up in the mammography department,” she said. Cheryl’s dedication to making patients feel supported and cared for during stressful moments has been a hallmark of her career and a source of comfort for so many.
As Cheryl steps into retirement, she looks forward to traveling, gardening, and rediscovering her love for sewing. Cheryl, thank you for your 36 years of dedication, leadership, and care. You’ve left an incredible legacy at Sierra View, and while we’ll miss you dearly, we wish you all the best in this well-earned next chapter. Congratulations and happy retirement!
