Reflecting on Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Gratitude and Highlights from SVMC
Cancer Services
Sierra View Medical Center gives a warm thank you to the community for their support during the 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Through a series of engaging and impactful events, individuals and local organizations came together to bring awareness. Some community partners also raised funds, benefitting the Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center at SVMC.
Coffee for a Cure with The Human Bean of Porterville
On October 18, Porterville residents made a special stop at The Human Bean’s Olive Avenue and Henderson locations to participate in “Coffee for a Cure.” Thanks to community members who turned their morning coffee into a force for good, this event raised $4,431.01—all of which was donated to the Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center to enhance local screening and cancer care services.
Color for a Cause – Breast Cancer Awareness Coloring Contest
Local youth from Pre-K through 12th grade brought their artistic talents to life in the Breast Cancer Awareness Coloring Contest, creating vibrant artwork that carried powerful messages of hope and support. The entries were judged by individuals with a deeply personal connection to breast cancer, either as past or current patients, who gathered during a monthly support group session at the hospital. Winners across three age categories received exciting prizes that included a Pink Micro Scooter, a Pink Polaroid Camera, and Pink Beats Headphones. Sierra View Medical Center extends heartfelt thanks to each young artist for their enthusiasm and creativity, helping raise awareness and inspire the community through their meaningful contributions.
The beloved Pink Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt returned to social media this October, bringing the community together for a fun challenge to locate the pumpkin at iconic local spots including the Porterville Chamber of Commerce, J&R Meat Co., Porterville College SAGE Allied Health Building, and Sierra View’s own Mammo/Imaging Department. Participants solved weekly clues for a chance to win raffle prizes. Winners were contacted on October 29. SVMC had more than 160 entries and are thankful for everyone’s participation in keeping this tradition alive.
Breast Cancer Awareness Trunk or Treat Car Show Presented by Royalistics Car Club
Car enthusiasts and families alike gathered at the Royalistics Car Club’s 1st Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Trunk or Treat Car Show on October 26 at Eagle Feather Trading Post #1. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center to support local cancer care services, combining a fun-filled event with a mission that impacts lives in the Porterville community.
Pink Patch Project Presented by the Porterville Police Department
For several years, the Porterville Police Department has engaged the community through the Pink Patch Project, offering a unique keepsake with a meaningful cause. This year, community members could purchase a pink patch shirt directly from the department. As in past years, all proceeds from these sales will be donated to Sierra View Medical Center’s Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center, supporting vital breast cancer care services.
Hats Off to Fighters - Hat Decorating Contest
Employees came together in a display of creativity and support for cancer fighters through the “Hats Off to Fighters” Hat Decorating Contest. Employees were encouraged to design unique hats, each one a tribute to those fighting cancer. These creative and inspiring hats were then displayed in the Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center, where they could be admired by patients and fellow employees alike. We extend a warm thank you to our Sierra View Foundation Board members who served as judges, thoughtfully selecting the most impactful designs. Their support helped make this special contest a meaningful tribute during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
These events highlight the compassion and commitment of Porterville and surrounding communities in the fight against breast cancer. We thank our community members, partners, and volunteers for making Breast Cancer Awareness Month a resounding success.
