$43,500 Donated by Porterville Breakfast Rotary Club to Cancer Treatment Center
$43,500 is the total amount that members of the Porterville Breakfast Rotary Club (PBRC) raised to benefit local cancer care and research in the past year with the help of community donations. Today, PBRC members presented the check to Sierra View Medical Center’s Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center (CTC). There to help receive the generous donation was Sierra View Medical Center CEO/President Donna Hefner and CTC and other SVMC leadership, including Patient Experience Officer Dan Blazar who is also a Rotarian.
The PBRC began raising funds for local cancer care 20 years ago. Throughout the years, PBRC has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to SVMC. The club works closely with Sierra View Medical Center to raise funds through their signature Run For Life Cancer Walk/Run event. Returning after two years, the latest Run For Life event held on May 7, 2022, drew in more than 300 runner and walker registrations, of which nearly 60 were SVMC employees.
“We are just really proud as a club to be able to support the cancer center,” said PBRC member Rob Taylor. “It’s a real bright spot in our community and something that the whole community is proud of.” Taylor, also a local business owner, thanked the hospital for their vision of creating a facility where local community members could receive the cancer care they may need close to home.
Director of CTC Crystal Davis explained that this year’s gift will continue positively impacting the care local patients receive at the center. Proceeds help to host cancer support groups, breast cancer awareness events and health fairs, the purchase of equipment and educational materials, and community outreach projects. Recently, the CTC team has used a portion of past PBRC donations to complete two landscaping projects. The updated facilities are meant to provide peaceful green spaces for CTC patients, employees and visitors. PBRC club members were invited for a socially distanced tour of the garden areas to see the progress.
PRBC donations also help fund the center’s Survivors Day Celebration. The CTC Community Relations Coordinator Carol Ann Moore invites patients to join us on Friday, June 3, 2022, for a very special presentation honoring local cancer survivors. The theme is “Hope Grows Here.”
The long-term commitment from service clubs like PBRC highlight the importance of partnerships and the far-reaching impact collaborations have on the care Sierra View Medical Center can provide for our community members. “Especially coming out of what we’ve been through, it gives us all hope," said Hefner.
