Sierra View Medical Center Releases Health Survey Seeks Feedback from Community Members
News
Sierra View Medical Center is requesting feedback from community members regarding access to health care and community resources as part of the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) survey. The CHNA is required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), enacted March of 2010, added Section 501(r) to the Internal Revenue Code, which affects charitable hospital organizations that are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt. Section 501(r)(3) of the Code requires each separately licensed hospital facility to conduct a CHNA at least once every three tax years, beginning in 2011, and to adopt an implementation strategy to meet the community health needs identified through the CHNA. Sierra View is working with the Hospital Council of Northern & Central California, with support from Saint Agnes Medical Center. Other nearby efforts are being headed by Kaweah Health and Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (Public Health).
What is the Community-Wide Survey?
Community feedback about health care services is essential for hospitals to better understand how to provide safe, high-quality care. Hospital facilities conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment to gather primary data from community members and Community-Based Organizations (CBOSs) in relation to access to health care, the quality of services they receive, family finances, health and wellbeing, emergency care, cultural awareness, important health conditions, and community resources, to name a few. This is an opportunity for community members to not only remark on the quality of the health care services they are receiving but also to give feedback on living conditions in their homes, local education resources, and infrastructure needs. Additionally, the survey also gives community members an opportunity to discuss how they have experienced access to health care and other community resources in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.
