April 2021 Leader of the Month: Kimberley Pryor-DeShazo
News
Please join us in celebrating our Leader of the Month recipient for April, Kimberley Pryor-Deshazo, Director of Marketing, Public Relations, and Sierra View Foundation. Kim has been with Sierra View Medical Center since 2016. As a woman in tech, her leadership is at the center of internal and external communication and marketing and branding strategy for the hospital’s dozens of departments and more than a thousand employees.
Directing a team of four, Kim’s upbeat personality coupled with her cutting-edge professional skills help her make even the most complicated projects feel effortless. “That takes talent, grace, and dedication,” says colleague Alida Verduzco Silva, who, along with team members Malynda Parsons and Valeria Reyes-Chavez, nominated Kim for the recognition.
At the onset of the pandemic, increasing round-the-clock communication for employees and the community became a challenge that Kim and her team quickly rose to. She has led the way in executing timely and accurate COVID crisis communications, increasing the hospital’s social media presence, and creating more opportunities for internal communication. All this while continuing to protect the integrity of Sierra View’s brand and marketing materials and keeping the latest regulatory and policy updates from the state of California and the CDC in mind.
Leading on various projects and committees, Kim always brings vision and optimism to the table. She has contributed to much of the updated wayfinding signage that the patients and the community use daily to navigate the hospital campus and outpatient facilities that sit on nearly 9 acres in Porterville’s Downtown. She also helps with signage and marketing support for outpatient facilities, including the Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center and the Sierra View Medical Plaza. She is also a member of Sierra View’s Culture team, where she helps create engaging opportunities for employees to embrace Sierra View’s mission, vision, and values.
Born and raised in Visalia, Kim received her bachelor’s in Mass Communications and Journalism and a certificate in Marketing from Fresno State. Kim has experience working with creative agencies supporting large brands such as McDonald’s, The Word & Brown Companies, and also worked at Kaweah Health’s Marketing Department. Drawing from her industry experience, a keen eye for design, and a natural sense for good communication, she helps raise awareness about essential health care services available right here in Porterville. These include the Urology Clinic in partnership with USC Keck School of Medicine and the Wound Healing Center in partnership with Healogics. By helping to tell the story of the services Sierra View offers and the teams caring for our patients, Kim continues to help make a difference in the Porterville community.
On the fundraising side, Kim directs the Sierra View Foundation (SVF), a non-profit 501c(3) organization, in finding ways to promote community philanthropy here in Porterville by building lasting relationships and promoting a positive image of Sierra View Medical Center. Working closely with the foundation, Kim supports local fundraising events and campaigns. She has helped bring new medical imaging equipment to Porterville, eliminating the need for travel. The latest foundation project includes helping to fund a new MRI machine that will benefit community residents.
Next time you see a Sierra View Medical Center sign, billboard, ad, or follow us on social media, you’ll know that it’s Kim in the background working with her team to bring you the latest information you need to keep yourself and your family safe. And you can bet she’s doing it with a smile!
