Outpatient Joint Replacement​

Traditionally, joint replacement required a lengthy inpatient stay, but recent advances have transformed the process. Now, total knee and hip replacements can be done on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home the same day or within 24 hours. This is made possible through improved anesthesia, surgical techniques, and early post-surgery rehabilitation protocols.

Whether inpatient or outpatient, the implants and techniques are identical. After a brief recovery period, you'll start walking with the support of physical therapy and nursing staff. Once pain is managed, and you can walk safely, most patients are discharged on the same day.

Not every patient is a candidate for outpatient joint replacement. The decision should be made collaboratively with your surgeon and family. For eligible patients, outpatient surgery offers a streamlined experience and the convenience of recovering in the comfort of their own home.
