Pulmonary function testing (PFT) is now available at Sierra View Medical Center to assess lung health and diagnose respiratory conditions. This testing provides critical information about how well your lungs are working, allowing for better diagnosis and treatment planning.
Pulmonary function testing is a series of non-invasive breathing tests that measure lung volume, airflow, and gas exchange. These tests help diagnose and monitor conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis.
During a PFT, a respiratory specialist will guide you through a series of breathing exercises. You may be asked to breathe in and out through a mouthpiece, take deep breaths and exhale forcefully, or sit inside a small booth for certain tests. The results provide valuable information about lung function and help your healthcare provider determine the best course of treatment.
If you visit one of our locations, such as the Academic Health Center in the Sierra View Medical Office Building or the Sierra View Community Health Center in Terra Bella, and need a PFT, you will be referred directly to Sierra View for testing.
You can also ask your primary care physician to refer you to Sierra View Medical Center for PFT, so you can receive care close to home. Once referred, you will complete a request form and register with our clerk before your test.
